Motivational Workshop

Where do you go if you’re already great?

This workshop - for a mixture of 70 existing and new Playmakers - was designed to go beyond the usual staff development workshop.

The club has a great experience, and the people - especially the Playmakers - play a massive part. So we went further.

After a fun ice-breaker, we looked at WHO were were doing this for, and what they really wanted. Who benefits when a club provides a great experience? And how do they benefit?

We explored the, often overlooked, WHY in detail too. In terms of how it changes the fans’ attitudes and behaviours towards the club. The way a fan - and younger ones or their parents - perceive a club in the early days can determine if they are occasional fans, or make a much bigger and longer commitment. But it’s not just financial gains that provide the compelling reason to do this, and we looked at them all.

Bringing learning and examples from both inside and outside of sport, as well as the research to back it up, everyone was in no doubt that good, or even very good, was nowhere near good enough.

After a short break for half-time, we re-capped and then moved onto the WHAT. If you already do a great job, how can you do it even better? What gives you that motivation to go the extra mile?

Finally the HOW reveals what that extra mile actually looks like in practice. None of it is rocket-science, but clubs and their people miss dozens of no-cost or low-cost opportunities to leave a fan wanting more and becoming a lifelong supporter of the club.

It really was a fantastic session.

I’ve had some great feedback from Playmakers already!
